I really think this little upcoming MMORPG from Bioware you’re surely heard about called Star Wars: The Old Republic is going to fail. Here’s why…
It’s too early to speculate whether it’ll be a good game or not. We don’t even know the release date yet: supposedly sometime this year. My guess is October or November, but who knows. Bioware is probably under a lot of pressure to release it anyway so I doubt the release date will be pushed back even further, but you never know.
Since the game is in closed beta (again, without any word when open beta might actually begin) it’s hard to tell whether it’s even good or not. We’ve all watched the gameplay videos and whatnot but they can’t really tell you whether you’ll be enjoying the game or not. So that’s yet another thing we’ll have to wait and see.
But, the reason why I think SWTOR will fail is because everyone and their grandma expects this to be the best game ever. As you can guess from what I wrote in the above two paragraphs, we basically don’t know shit about SWTOR. We don’t know much about the classes, ships, combat, instances, crafting, and the most important thing, endgame content. (In)frequent nuggets of info we do get are all from the official channels, therefore they hardly tell the whole story.
A lot of MMORPGs failed because players had too high expectations, and the same thing IS happening with SWTOR. We both know you’ll buy the game regardless, but buying does not equal subscribing. Kick it down a notch people, this game won’t kill WoW. It might be good, but if you expect a miracle you’ll be in for a nasty surprise.
